ILUGNY members displayed LEGO creations and helped the builders of tomorrow engage with the LEGO brick at the Patchogue-Medford Library as part of the festivities of the first annual PopCon this past Saturday, May 30th. Our members displayed MOCs including City Modulars, mosaics, video game inspired builds, and space themed MOCs.
Library patrons were able to easily sign up for timed LEGO one handed build challenges. Patrons would speak with one of the ILUGNY members in attendance (easily identifiable wearing ILUGNY t-shirts) to sign them up for this activity. This event was a huge hit with participants. Families with and without children engaged with the brick by building set #75344 Boba Fett’s Starship Microfighter. Builders constructed this set by holding it in one hand. Other heats had players trying to accurately build the set the quickest. These popular LEGO convention activities are exciting new ways to enjoy building sets and for the guests who signed up for them, they enjoyed interacting with the brick in a way they weren’t accustomed to. Even a group of non-LEGO adult friends enjoyed building with LEGO, telling ILUGNY members that “they hadn’t built with LEGO since they were kids.”
This event was a lot of fun to orchestrate and we look forward to attending the Patchogue-Medford Library’s Popcon when it is held next year with more speed build competitions!
