At I LUG NY, a shared love of LEGO brings us together to build, learn, and have fun. Integrity, respect, and playfulness guide our community. Our bylaws and code of conduct describe the welcoming environment we work to create and the commitments our members make to one another.
A welcoming community
New members are welcome. We know everyone starts somewhere. Whether you’re an experienced builder or just getting started with your own creations, there’s a place for you here. Our members share ideas, answer questions, and encourage each other to learn and try something new.
Respect extends to everyone: members, guests, and event staff. We do not tolerate harassment, bullying, or discrimination based on race, gender, ability, age, or building skill level.
When our events include children, the language, conversations, and builds on display are kept appropriate for a general audience.
Respect for every builder’s work
Every creation represents someone’s time and imagination. Members get explicit permission before touching another member’s original creation, often called a MOC. Builders receive credit when their designs inspire others, and no one’s work may be claimed as someone else’s own.
Sharing a build should be an encouraging experience. Members ask whether a builder would like feedback before suggesting changes, and keep any feedback polite and helpful.
Fairness and integrity
Group activities are organized with fairness in mind. Members follow the organizer’s rules for parts drafts, the distribution of materials provided to support the group, and games so everyone gets a fair share. Member-to-member sales are part of our community; members may not use I LUG NY primarily to find deals for immediate resale at a profit.
Members represent I LUG NY when wearing group apparel or taking part in public events. They are expected to avoid public disputes and behavior that reflects poorly on the group.
I LUG NY is an independent fan community. Members do not officially represent The LEGO Group unless authorized for a specific collaborative program.
A thoughtful online community
Our Discord and other online conversations are places to share builds, exchange ideas, and stay connected. Posts belong in the appropriate channels, with GIFs and memes kept to the designated #random or #fun channels. Spam and excessive pings are not welcome; mentions of everyone or an entire role are reserved for urgent information that affects the whole group.
We recognize that tone can be hard to read in a message. Members assume good intentions and use emojis or tone indicators to help make their meaning clear. Concerns about other members or internal group matters are handled privately or through the Executive Committee.
To preserve the surprise for others, discussions of leaked sets or new episodes of LEGO-related shows such as LEGO Masters or Ninjago use Discord’s spoiler formatting (||spoiler||).
Support when concerns arise
Disagreements sometimes happen, even in a friendly community. Members are encouraged to work through everyday conflicts privately and calmly. If an issue cannot be resolved, the Executive Committee will investigate and take corrective action as needed. Serious concerns, including theft, physical threats, or harassment, can be brought directly to the committee.
Anyone with a question or concern can reach us at contact@ilugny.org and ask to speak with the Executive Committee.
Our commitment to these standards
These expectations are part of membership in I LUG NY. When they are not met, the Executive Committee responds according to the seriousness of the situation:
- Minor infractions will result in written warnings and probation.
- Severe or repeated violations will result in a ban from I LUG NY.
- Theft, physical threats, or harassment will result in an immediate review of membership status.
