I LUG NY Monthly Building Challenge for February 2017-FebRovery!

I LUG NY members were challenged to come up with Rovers for our first Monthly Building Challenge of 2017…Febrovery!

FebRovery is a themed building activity hosted over on flickr. To learn more visit https://www.flickr.com/groups/1841195@N22/discuss/

Back to our building challenge. Members were given very “loose” parameters (build a rover, 150ish parts, and rovers must include at least 1 wheel). We had 8 members build a total of 26 rovers. Our entries were all varied in size, color and usage.

Members in attendance at February’s LUG meeting voted for their favorite rover by placing a 1×1 orange brick in front of their selection.

We hope you enjoy looking at the rover gallery here.

Stay tuned next month for our next building challenge (construction).

Fairy Bricks, Goldman Sachs and I LUG NY at Department of Pediatrics at Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mount Sinai

Lives were brightened through LEGO on Tuesday, July 26th.

Volunteers from Goldman Sachs Community Teamworks and I LUG NY members Bill Murphy and Brian Wygand were honorary Fairy Bricks fairies for the day. We all helped young patients and their siblings build LEGO sets that were donated to the Department of Pediatrics at Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mt. Sinai in Manhattan. For the past 3 years, I LUG NY has donated brand new,  sealed LEGO sets to area hospitals. On December 20th, 2015, Hope and Brian Wygand dropped off LEGO to North Shore University Hopsital-Manhasset. It was Brian’s first delivery there but Hope made a delivery there of our son Ryan 4 years ago! Continue reading I LUG NY Holiday Donation of LEGO to North Shore University Hospital-Manhasset

I LUG NY Donation of LEGO to Cohen Children’s Medical Center

I LUG NY continued to raise funds to help bring smiles to children’s faces who are being cared for at local children’s hospitals. Every penny raised is used to purchase LEGO to donate to two local children’s hospitals. We partnered with Cohen Children’s Medical Center of NY in the past and have done so once again in 2014. I LUG NY member Brian Wygand delivered a donation of LEGO to Cohen Children’s Medical Center on December 14, almost exactly a year to the date of our previous holiday donation. http://www.ilugny.org/2013/12/15/donation-1-of-2-dropped-off-at-cohen-childrens-medical-center-today/

Back to the 80’s with I LUG NY at the Queens LEGO Store

I LUG NY members Cody, Murphy and I met up at the Queens LEGO Store to swap out a Halloween model for a model reflective of growing up in the 1980’s. Models from this LUG Showcase include Cody’s K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider, the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard as well as another icon of the 80’s, MTV. Remember when they truly were a music television channel?

The store staff and management especially, loved this window! When you stop by the Queens LEGO Store be sure to check this display out.IMG_2862 IMG_2863 IMG_2860

A LEGO Filled Weekend (New York Comic Con, a New LEGO Store and a Free Build at TRU)

This past weekend had so many awesome (some of which were free) activities and events for LEGO fans. The following is a review of these events from I LUG NY members who were fortunate to be in attendance at all of these events.

Starting Thursday, October 9th and running through Sunday October 12th was New York Comic Con, held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. This event is not just a celebration of comic books but of all things pop culture related as well.

5 Years Ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away-I LUG NY Began to Form

OK, so the Palisades is not a galaxy far, far away but the New York LEGO scene does seem like a different galaxy however. In 2009, there wasn’t a New York Adult Fan of LEGO group active online. Five years ago there was one LEGO Store in New York located in West Nyack. It was at this LEGO Store at the Palisades Center Mall where a change began to take hold for the New York AFoL community.
